Welcome to the Cycling Suitability Directory! New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island have hundreds of highways. Being one of the most highly regarded areas in the world for bicycle touring, visitors and residents alike desire to spend their time riding on the "best of the best".

Every numbered highway in each province has been given a rating . The evaluations range from a top rating of 5, to a low of 1.

With the help of a volunteer network, and countless submissions, the result has been this popular and well-respected database of evaluations.

The database is supplemented with continuous contributions and suggestions.

Please remember that volunteer organizations have limited time and resources. Submissions and comments will be evaluated, but may take some time.

Each province has its own system of classifications and symbols. They are a rough guideline as to the traffic, road shoulder and maintenence of each. Over time, polulation changes and additons or demotions of other nearby roads can place a highway in one classification into what could have been another. Suburban areas make some minor roads much busier, while some rural areas are less populous than they were a century ago and many major trunk roads are quite quiet for biking.
