Route 12 follows the north-west coast of Prince Edward Island. It is broken into two distinct sections by a short intrusion of Highway 2. The "eastern" section does not see much shoreline and has a few hills. It is fairly uneventful but does has a few nice spots and is certainly a a good cycling road. On the other side, between Portage and North Cape, the route is more interesting, with more opportunities to rund down to beaches or fishing ports. Route 12 is a natural to form larger loops with Routes 14 or 11.
