It will be a tour of mostly gentle
terrain. There will be occasional small hills, but we
for the most part follow the shoreline of New Brunswick's
famed Saint John River. For more accomplished bicycle
tourists, options will be available for longer daily
routes. These will allow for taking in more of the province,
while enjoying the event with others.
It's a big nine day tour. It
takes in several different areas. We begin at the seaport
city of Saint John, New Brunswick. Here the lengthy
Saint John River empties into the Bay of Fundy. It is
from here we begin following the river inland.
A winding route follows the river and
its adjoining bays and lakes. We pass through a series
of farming and market towns, some dating from early
in Canadian history. Once we move further northward,
the villages become more French-speaking. By the time
we reach Edmundston, the Saint John is a far tamer river
than we remember when started riding alongside it days
before. Soon we reach near its origins, where it is
no more than a creek.
We now find ourselves at the far extreme
corner of Atlantic Canada. We are so close to Quebec
that we have decided to push the tour onward, with two
fun days in the province. The Saint Lawrence River is
our goal and we will have a choice of a road or recreation
trail to take us all the way from the New Brunswick
border. At Riviere-du-Loup we rewind the tour with provided
transportation back to the city of Saint John and our farewells.
