Tour 11 Kings County

Distance: 116 km (72 miles)

Starting Point: Wolfville; Kentville

Region: Annapolis Valley

Terrain: Very Hilly to Challenging

This is perhaps the finest day ride in the province. The reason is simple- VARlETY . The Cabot Trail is spectacular, but you don't have as dramatic a constantly changing back drop, and by no means the solitude of this route. If you want a first-class, full day of cycling, you can not do any better in all Nova Scotia!

This ride comprises a "Greatest Hits" tour of highlights from the tours of the eastern Annapolis Valley. Parts of Tours 7, 8, 9, and 10 from the Nova Scotia Bicycle Book have been put together to form one incredible ride.

It must be mentioned straight away that this outing will be challenging to many casual cyclists. Shortcuts are possible at many spots, offering direct routes back to Wolfville, or Kentville. If you do not like hills, or want to enjoy a leisurely ride, tours 7, and 8 have been specially designed. On a hot day this could be a work-out. There will be several big uphills. You will also have one of the fastest downhills on the Nova Scotia mainland into Centreville, and a long gradual downhill into the Gaspereau Valley. Sea breezes, which come in at Halls Harbour will be much appreciated.

Please do not get an impression that this is merely a series of hills. This has been designed for you to sample one of the finest cycling regions of the country. A dozen first-rate areas will be available for rest breaks. Halls Harbour is about half-way, and will, as mentioned, on a warm day be the most refreshing spot on your route.

Note: This is a long tour, which covers routes covered in detail on Tours 7, 8, 9, and 10. The book's descriptions on these will provide further background on the sections you will be covering on this tour.
