km (218 miles)

What can you
say about a tour that takes you to Musquodoboit
Harbour, Necum Teuch, and Ecum Secum?
The route through these places is a
primary tour of the Nova Scotia Bicycle
Book . The Eastern Shore (Marine
Drive) is a place of peace and quiet.
There is little commercial development
to detract from the natural beauty of
the landscape. The light traffic you
will encounter here is what one might
expect to find on a minor inland road.
It is, however, along the Atlantic Ocean!
A long, linear route, it is not suited
for day tours. It is however an important
connection, chosen by the guide for
connecting the western and eastern sections
of Nova Scotia.
The Eastern Shore was a booming place
in the mid to late 1800's. Lumbering,
fishing, and a small gold rush were
part of what drew fortune seekers to
the area. Today, there are in this region,
fewer people than 100 years ago. Sheet
Harbour, with only 800 residents, is
the largest locality on this trip between
Musquodoboit Harbour and Cape Breton!
Only a few thousand people live along
the entire 350 km (217 mi.) of this
tour!
Few large hills follow the shore,
though frequent shifting will be required
while you cross between coves. Remember,
the shoreline villages on this tour
route are small. Planning will be necessary.
