Little Prince Edward Island
is an equal partner in Canadian Confederation. Its population
has changed only slightly from the date when Canada officially
became a nation.
In fact, Canada actually became a country from
historic meetings held on the Island. This Islanders make clear
to visitors at every opportunity.
PEI is the easiest and most carefree of the Atlantic
Canada provinces to cycle in. You are never far from a cozy Bed
and Breakfast or seafood restaurant. While some points of the
island are loved to death, there are countless parts you can have
all your own.
Small, quiet backroads run everywhere and in
all directions. Since there are so many roads, routing is never
much of a concern as more roads going your direction are only
a few minutes ahead.
The Island is reached at the east end by a ferry
from Nova
Scotia. The new Confederation Bridge connects the province
from southeastern New
Brunswick.
The Magdalen
Islands is part of the
Province of Quebec which is reached from the town of Souris, at
the far eastern end of the Island. Many PEI itineraries include
a trip to the Islands.
The Prince
Edward Island Bicycle Page lists everything to
do with cycling in the province.
