Labrador is
a territory which is part of the island province of Newfoundland.
It is, however, such a different world, that it gets a special
mention.
The amount of bikable road is quite limited. Labrador
is, most certainly, an area for adventurers. Experienced travellers,
including many Europeans, select this huge sparsely populated
territory for its immense distances, and challenges of the unknown.
A true frontier, new areas are slowly being opened
up. Only a few thousand people live in Labrador, and with few
roads, traditional road cycling is extremely limited.
With the advent of the mountain bike, unique new
challenges have been made possible. There are two primary areas.
The first is along the southern coast, through coastal aboriginal
villages and supply posts. The other is a very long road, the
"TLC", which crosses Labrador, on a continually developing
road from Quebec to near the Atlantic.
The true biking possibilities are still to be determined.
The Newfoundland
and Labrador Bicycle Page lists everything to do with
cycling in the province.
