Quebec's Saguenay and Lac St-Jean Tour - August 21 - 30, 2009 - Tour Outline

This will be a much anticipated event for 2009! This adventure will have two distinct sections. The first will be along the Saguenay fjord, the second over two hundred kilometers of cycling paths along Lac Sant-Jean.

   
       
 

There is considerable interest in this new event, which will navigate one side of Quebec's Saguenay River and then around Lac St-Jean. The first section is along the Saguenay River. This is a massive fjord. It will offer our group some fair-sized to big hills. The second part of the tour will be the reward - over two hundred kilometers of cycling paths along Lac Saint-Jean. A full 95% of the trail is paved! The remainder is well-cared for and crushed dust. This will be mostly easy cycling. The maximum grade is 6% and those are not often. The route mostly follows the lakeshore. There will be countless options for breaks along the shoreline, with plenty of spots to relax on cafe patios and beaches. There will be diversions for explorations away from the trail.

Other than the first day, the tour's distances and terrain should offer a comfortable, social pacing for cycling. The intent of the tour is a social one. Participants on this tour should be those who enjoy cycling paths for the fact they place them away from car and truck traffic. They must on the other hand also accept that cycling on pathways means encountering occasional "bottlenecks" of slower cyclists, and a casual pace is required in some places.
