Day 5 – Mont-Tremblant Area Day Tour 59 km (37 mi.)

We took a day to ride about the Mont-Tremblant area, with its many bicycle paths to explore and a huge number of diversions.

The P’tit Train du Nord passes next to Mercier Lake and what was the original town of Mont-Tremblant, also known as the “Old Village”. The train station has been converted into an information centre and exhibition space for local artists. There are cafés, shops, restaurants, pubs, fine groceries, bakeries, deluxe boutiques, and antique stores. This area is touristy and quite busy. It can be a zoo in summer, be thankful you are on a bicycle and not in a car looking for parking.

After the authentic little towns along the route Mont-Tremblant may be appear a bit crass. This area is Quebec’s Disneyland, distilling their icons into a poutine-fueled, recreated alpine town. Although built to be next to the large ski hills, it operates as a year round resort. It is big, busy, brash, and somewhat expensive. Needless to say, it is overflowing with specialty boutiques, stores, hotels, restaurants, and, of course, tourists.

The bicycle paths, however, are quite nice. Keep in mind you are biking in a family destination area. Be patient on the paths – expect side-by-side riders, kids, dogs, baby strollers, people walking with ice cream cones, reckless racers, and impromptu family gatherings occasionally blocking the trail.
