Day 6– Brebouf to Sainte-Agathe 53 km (33 mi.)

The trail now alternates between paved and smooth stonedust surface.  The last night of this tour’s route is at Sainte-Agathe. This route goes from the campground at Brebouf, if starting from indoor accommodations near Mont-Tremblant the total should be less.

Shortly after passing Saint-Jovite, which serves as downtown Mont-Tremblant, it is necessary to start climbing a long slope. This incline is not very steep, but it is noticeable because it runs for a full 8 kilometres. The climb comes to an end just a little over a kilometre past Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré. There is a sign announcing the summit at an altitude of 426 metres.  Schedule a rest stop along the way.  If pedaling up the long slope gives anyone hunger pangs, it may be worth stopping at Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré for a meal. The Stazione Restaurant is next to the trail and is a popular place for cyclists to have lunch. Nearby is also a park along the trail, and the town’s old train station has a rest area with public washrooms.

From this point onwards, it is all downhill for the rest of the Petit Train du Nord!
The area between the summit and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts is probably the most boring part of the trail. It often follows a noisy four-lane highway, and parallels an industrial park. At least there is still have safe riding with a trail.

Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts is an attractive town with a nice lakeside downtown. It has a good number of restaurants, bars, and terraces. With its surrounding lakes, Sainte Agathe has long been a favoured destination. Between 1892 and 1911, a number of spas and hospitals were established along the lake.  Many of these structures still exist, some now as inns. Cycling around Lac des Sables makes a good afternoon extra loop once you have reached town. If camping, lock your bikes, the camp is frequented by non-campers.
