Day 7 – Sainte-Agathe to Saint-Jérôme 53 km (33 mi.)
The final day is mostly all downhill, the main reason people usually go from north to south on this great cycle route.
From Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts it is only 10 kilometres to Val-David, which is worth considering as a coffee stop. Val-David is one of the most picturesque villages in the Laurentians. Known as a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts in Quebec, it is the cradle of rock climbing in Canada, and a privileged place of creation for many artists and craftsmen. Needless to say, it comes fully equipped with boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. There is also a good bicycle shop in town, all not far from the trail.
The distance between Val-David and Saint-Jérôme is less than 50 kilometres, and should be easy riding the rest of the way. On route you will ride by Sainte-Adèle. It has a lot to offer anyone who pedals into town. Unfortunately, many do not visit, as the trail is a bit removed from the downtown. The town’s old train station on the Petit Train du Nord, however, is a very popular stopping point. It houses a well-equipped bicycle shop as well as a nice restaurant, which is an ideal place to grab lunch while watching the traffic on the trail.

The P’tit Train du Nord returns to a paved surface for the last few kilometres leading into Saint-Jérôme. Here it also serves an inner-city bike path. Expect urban life to start again – dog walkers, joggers, kids, and people blocking the trail for leisurely conversations. Cyclists come to the official end of the trail when they pass under the Petit Train du Nord Arch and enter a large plaza by the old station of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It is a busy spot during the summer. This is the end place of this tour, a great spot to sit down at a cafe or restaurant to celebrate the journey.
The trail continues as an adjunct to Blainville. It is an official add on to the system. You could stay an extra while and add this to your trip. I found it good riding, but not as scenic as the Petit Train du Nord. It is included in the index as “Day 0”.
