Most base their tour at the city of Saint-Jérôme. From there the route can be cycled both up and back or use the local bicycle transport service assist in either direction (their link is below). Our ACC tour took our own shuttle to Mont-Laurier due to logistics. Once at Mont-Laurier we started with an afternoon warm-up loop. Mont-Laurier is worth hanging out in so a starting loop and a night’s stay before the trail is worthwhile. One could also stay in Mont-Laurier another day and do another day ride to and from Ferme-Neuve.
The northern portion (between Mont-Laurier & Labelle) has towns fewer and they are further apart. The scenery is more natural, and more rugged. Further southward, the rivers along the trail turn to lakes, with more villages and small towns along the way.
We followed another day off the trail with a loop on both sides of the Rivière-Rouge. After moving further south we took a third day off the Petit Train to ride on the Mont-Tremblant bike paths.
The route then continues roughly a south-east direction back to Saint-Jérôme.
The extra 18 km adjunct between Blainville and Saint-Jérôme could be added on before or after a trip on the main trail. It is included as a ride from the index as “Day-0”.
